Best Dog Multivitamins (2026): Tested and Ranked
Updated March 14, 2026
Most dogs on a complete commercial kibble diet don't strictly need a multivitamin — AAFCO-formulated foods are designed to meet baseline nutritional requirements. But "meets minimum requirements" and "optimally nourished" aren't the same thing, and dogs on home-cooked diets, raw diets, or lower-quality kibble often have real gaps worth filling.
The challenge with dog multivitamins is finding products that provide genuinely useful nutrient levels without crossing into over-supplementation territory — particularly for fat-soluble vitamins like A and D, where excess accumulates and can cause harm.
What We Looked For
1. Nutrient completeness
A meaningful multivitamin should cover the full vitamin spectrum (A, D, E, K, C, B-complex) plus key minerals (zinc, selenium, manganese). Products that only hit a few vitamins and call themselves a multivitamin didn't make the list.
2. Bioavailable mineral forms
Mineral form matters significantly. Chelated minerals (zinc chelate, selenium proteinate, manganese proteinate) are better absorbed than oxide or sulfate forms. We prioritized products using bioavailable mineral forms.
3. Appropriate dosing — not just maximum doses
More is not always better with vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins accumulate; excessive supplementation of Vitamin A or D can cause toxicity over time. We looked for products with rationally calibrated doses rather than "more = premium" marketing.
4. Functional ingredient quality
Many multivitamins include joint, omega-3, or probiotic ingredients. We evaluated whether these were present at meaningful doses or just label decoration.
5. Form factor and compliance
Soft chews and flavored powders have better daily compliance than capsules and tablets for most dogs. A supplement only works if a dog will actually eat it.
